Baby food manufacturers NutriDar awarded HACCP certificate

AMMAN — In line with its efforts to promote quality standards and to improve business competitiveness for Jordanian SMEs, JUSBP, a USAID funded program of the International Executive Service Corps in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade assisted the baby food manufacturer NutriDar in implementing the ISO 9002 and in becoming the 10th company in Jordan to hold a HACCP certificate.

Obtaining international standard certifications such as the ISO 9000 series and HACCP reaffirms NutriDar’s compliance with the highest work standards, enabling the company to compete more effectively both locally, regionally and globally. According to Amer Hadidi, co-manager of Firm Level Operations at JUSBP.

"The HACP approach offers a documented system that will enhance the existing on —-enabling NutriDar to become the first Jordanian Company of its nature to acquire a HACCP certificate."

As with NutriDar, JUSBP has been progressive in emphasizing the long-term benefits and importance of such certifications, Suhair Al Khatib, co-manager of Firm Level Operations at JUSBP said, "By implementing a quality-related system, a Jordanian enterprise can establish a structured quality management system, enhance quality awareness among its employees, have a better working environment with clear, well-defined job responsibilities, improve product/service quality and thus increase customer satisfaction."

Established in 1999, NutriDar, (a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company Dar Al Dawa) has from the onset encouraged and invested considerable time and effort towards highlighting the company’s quality conscious creed. The impeccably clean, and state of the art facilities, currently produces three ranges of HACCP compliant baby food products and will soon introduce four more to the local market. NuriDar now holds a 40 percent stake of the Jordanian market share of baby foods sold in pharmacies.

"Manufacturing baby food products entails following stringent procedures. The guidelines are often even stricter than for the production of pharmaceuticals. HACCP certification is further proof that NutriDar has exercised all reasonable care in the preparation of its food products," said Mansour Fitiany, plant manager at NutriDar.

The newly acquired certification is also a positive motivational factor when promoting the company’s products, and all are optimistic at the advent of seeing a considerable increase in their future target sales.

Increasing exports is a major strategy for Jordanian companies seeking further growth. The Managing Director of NutriDar, Walid Finan, pointed out, "The welcome addition of the HACCP certification to NutriDar compounds the company’s credibility in its constant pursuit for quality.
