Dar Al Dawa Registers a New Patent

Dar Al Dawa, Development and Investment Co. has registered a new drug patent in the European Patent Office according to its Bulletin 2002/40 number EP1245566A1 dated 2/10/2002 and the PCT number WO 02/079164 A1. The patent is related to the quinolin-4-one derivatives and their uses as active ingredients in pharmaceutical compositions, particularly as antibiotics.

Dr. Farouk Al Hajjar, Synthesis Department Director at Dar Al Dawa, stated that other derivatives of 4-quinolonione-3-carboxylic acid such as norfloxacin and ofloxacin, are known to be active as antibiotics, but this group (the patent), is being structurally related to above mentioned group of compounds, without the carboxylic acid functionality, which are common to all known active substances. The patented drug group are not only highly effective as antibiotics, but have a superior antibacterial effect.
